Could brown eyeliner be the switch your olive skin needs?

Brown eyeliner is having a moment. And we are here to tell you why this is the best news ever for those with olive skin! Softer than black eyeliner, it lines and adds depth to the eyes without looking over powering or over-done. It also works with the olive skin undertones rather than fight against - like some cool-based black eyeliners .

Black eyeliner can also be a tad harsh if applied incorrectly – and let’s face it we’ve all looked in the mirror halfway through the day to find our liner smudged and our eyes looking like they’ve just done ten rounds with mike Tyson.

In contrast, brown eyeliner actually looks better slightly smudged and worn in - giving a real nineties vibe to your make-up look. Bonus.

What shade works best for olive skin?

We chatted to make-up artist Aimee Connolly who had these tips, “I’d suggest reaching for a warmer tone brown like Mac Cosmetics Kohl Pencil in Costa Riche, £16, if you have olive skin.”

“First, line the top & bottom lash line with the brown pencil and really work it into the lashes to ensure there’s no gaps. Next, take a small definer brush and blend the liner out using small circular movements,” she suggests.

If you want to amp it up this is when you can add the same pencil to the waterlines for a smokier effect. Aimee also suggests trying to team it with a nude pencil to make eyes appear wider and brighter.

“Brown eyeliner gives the same effect as a black, but in a much less dramatic way,” says Aimee. “It can be much more flattering on a lot of eye shapes.”
