What the most fashionable fingertips are wearing RN (and how you can pick the right hue for your skin tone!)

Loud or understated?

Currently there are two camps when it comes to nails; bright, sunny pops of colour or those who prefer a minimal, barely-there mani.

When it comes to the vibrant and fun camp, it’s all about bubble gum pinks that pack a punch. We love Essie Treat Love Colour TLC Care Nail Polish - Punch It Up at BEAUTY BAY which is the perfect pink to show off a golden skin tone.

For muted shades you can’t beat a sophisticated neutral slate grey - look for one with a slight shimmer to stop the tone looking flat. Try Cienna Rose Clean Slate - Slate Grey Creme Shimmer Non-Toxic Nail Polish – Cienna Rose which has an amazing red/amber reflective shimmer, and looks stunning against both warm and cool undertones.

Pastel power

Pastels are having a moment. Whether it’s multiple shades, just on the tips or all one colour it’s all about embrace the pale shades. One of our top tips is to apply a white nail varnish underneath. Allow to dry fully before applying your colour. This will ensure the colour looks exactly like it does in the bottle.

Worry about wearing green, if you have olive undertones? There is now need. Especially if you opt for a pastel mint hue like Barry M Gelly Nail Paint - Pistachio | Make Up | Superdrug. It has a subtle shimmer and works on every skin tone.  Try it or any other shade of sorbet you’d see at an ice cream parlour!

Multi-mani

Multi coloured “skittle” manis were all over Insta last year, perhaps inspired by the love of rain-bows for the NHS, and they'll be back this year. Cute and easy there are many versions and they look particularly great on short nails. Try a different shade on every finger to showcase all your faves or try just one colour palette and wearing all the shades in that spectrum.

Twist on French

 Nails-2

Multicoloured French nail tips and the Shadow French are big trends to brighten up neutral shades and more fun than the classic. Simply apply your favourite natural base shade, then add a thin line of your chosen colour at the tip.

The best shades for olive skin

 Nails-3

Carla Opoku, founder of natural vegan nail brand Cienna Rose says;

Olive skin types look great with hot corals, tangerine and warm sunny shades as well as more punchy bold reds. When it comes to nudes, olive skin tones should look for nudes in shades of peach – rather than pink. Creamy, milkshake tones also work well because they highlight the inherent tan hue of the skin while providing just the right amount of contrast.
